Brew Boys
Brew Boys cellar door/tasting room is located in suburban Adelaide right near the Regency Park TAFE and within a long but manageable walk from my house. This makes it a place that I drop into regularly.
They are open Thursday-Saturday from 1200 until 1900. When you drop down you will most likely find either Stephen or Simon the owners and brewers behind the bar serving their beer. Both ar egreat guys and always up for a chat about their beer and beer in general. Both of the guys have years of experience in the industry and really know their stuff. The venue is great with a small lounge area, a pool table and dart board. Normally some good music is playing and there is sport of some kind sport on the tv. Often on a Saturday the bbq will be fired up and you can get something to eat whilst admiring the hops growing out the back.
The place just has a great relaxed atmosphere. I just like to hang out here. It’s the kind of place that is completely unpretentious and anyone can enjoy themselves and feel relaxed here. It helps that they have great beer too.
At any time they will have between three and five different beers on tap. The main stays are the Maiden ale and Ace of Spades stout with a bunch of others rotating through the line up. Recently they have had a cider on tap and have been doing some small batches of experimental beers with some great results. The best of these has been the harvest ale made from hops they have brown themselves. The guys are also doing new beers all the time including oak aged and sour beer experiments so it’s worth dropping down regularly to see what they have.
The other big reason you want to get down there is the one thing you can get at the tasting room and nowhere else. That one thing is their beers being served off the Randall, see photo below. The Randall is a device made popular by the Dogfish Head Brewery. It runs the beer from the keg through fresh whole leaf hops before it gets to your glass. There is nothing quite like that smack of fresh hops in your glass. They rotate what beers they have connected to the Randall but the Maiden is found there most often. If you like hops you have to try a beer served this way. Get There!
