Support Your Local Brewery Adelaide

Line Up

When was the last time you visited one of the local breweries? There are a few to chose from located in and around our fair city. Whilst they don’t all have their own venues there are some that do and they serve some very good beer. The only way to get more good beer out to the public is to support the people that make and serve it. Who can you have more of an impact on than the small local breweries.

East of the city or in the Hills then go for a visit to the Lobethal Bierhaus. On top of some amazing beer, try the double hopped IPA, they have their own restaurant with really great food. If you are a brewing geek the hardware is even on display for you to swoon over while enjoying a pint. In the central or West of the city then head down to Brewboys. Thursday through Sunday you will find Simon down there serving his beer and quite often a band playing. Brewboys also have a ton of special events through the year and there is certain to be one that appeals to you. If you are down South then why not visit McLaren Vale Beer Company or Goodiesons, both located in McLaren Vale. You can even go a little further down to the beach and stop in for an Ale overlooking the now flowing Murray River at Steam Exchange. If you are in the North of the city head out to the Barossa on the weekend and have a taste at Barossa Brewing Company in Grenock.

All this is right on your door step Adelaide. Take advantage of it this weekend and have some great craft beer. Get There!

Double Barrelled Locals at The Wheaty, Wheatsheaf Hotel

BAR

The first Wednesday of the month is coming up once again. This means it’s time for double barrelled locals at The Wheaty again. This month it’s Brewboys and Steam Exchange. This month we have some old favourites and some new beers coming on tap. On top of the beer the brewers are also there to have a chat to and talk about their beer. They quite often start shouting beers too. Gareth from Steam Exchange will be there along with Simon and Stephen from Brewboys. Make sure to say hi to them as they are all good guys.

To the beer…..

From Steam Exchange we have the Oak Aged Pale Ale. This beer spends eight to ten weeks in French oak before being making it to the keg for serving. We have seen this one on at The Wheaty before and it went over pretty well then. It’s been a while since I have had it so I am looking forward to having a couple on Wednesday night. The oak adds a great character to an already good beer. It’s a malty beer without being too big so it’s still really drinkable. This is complimented by a good but not overpowering bitterness and great flavour from Golding’s hops.

We get to try two beers from Brewboys this month. We will start the month with the old favourite Maiden Ale. This is their malty amber ale that has just enough bitterness and a good hop hit to make it really drinkable. Most of us have had a chance to try this one before but fresh from the tap it is a fantastic beer and oen you should get down for a pint or two of. Later in the month we get to try the King Brown on tap. This is a beer that was made in a very small batch in the past and sold only in the old Pick Axe Longneck bottles. The new batch is based on that beer but the ABV has been turned down from 6.5% to 4.2% so you can have a couple and still be standing. It still promises to be really malty and super tasty as it is loaded with My Hood hops.

Lots of good stuff happening down at The Wheaty so you should really get down there for a beer or two. From 1800 on Wednesday March 2. Get There!

Double Barrelled Locals at the Wheaty, Wheatsheaf Hotel

The Wheaty

This post is a little late to the party. However, if you catch it in time it is double barrelled locals at the Wheaty tonight. From the Brewboys we have their German style wheat beer Schweinhund. The opposing beer is from Steam Exchange but I’m not sure which beer they have decided to put on tap this month.

Festivities kick off around 1800. It’s normally a big night when the Brewboys are there so make sure you have your party hat on. Get There!

New Year’s Eve Eve at the Brewboys

GT LagerBrewboys aren’t open on new year’s eve but they are open on new year’s eve eve. They have a one off keg for the night called hoppy new beer which sounds like it is right up my alley. Music and fun will also abound. If you are looking for something to do this Thursday get down to Brewboys. You are probably on leave from work so you can get there any time from noon when they open. Get There!

Upcoming at Brewboys

Serving

This weekend has a number of events on for the Brewboys. Friday night sees the Sax Pack playing live at the cellar door with some food being put on by the boys. From all reports this is a great band. They also have some stuff coming up for the guitar festival so if you are a music lover keep your eyes out for that.

On Sunday is the Prospect food and fashion affair. Prospect Road gets closed off and there is lots of fashion show complimented with great food, wine and beer. Brewboys have done the last couple and are back again this year. The fashion isn’t really my thing but I can get along for the great food and beer. Go visit the boys grab a beer and have a chat. If it’s like past years it will be hot and sunny beer drinking weather.

UPDATE
I forgot to mention that Brewboys will also have their very small batch Vanilla Bean Session Ale on tap this weekend. If previous small batches are anything to bo by it will be an interesting drop.

Double Barrelled Locals at The Wheaty

A Pint of Rogue

It’s time again for Double Barrelled Locals at Adelaide’s favourite, The Wheaty. This month it’s Brewboys and Steam Exchange. For added interest Chris White from White Labs yeast Company will also be along for the ride. If you are a home brewer this is a good chance to get to talk to a guy who knows a whole lot about yeast. A very friendly and approachable guy.

The Brewboys have Fair Maiden pouring. This is a altered version of the normal Maiden ale. It’s a little paler, alittle hoppier, a little drier and a little more bitter. Sounds pretty good to me. I can’t wait to get a chance to give it a try. I was going to try to have a alcohol free week after ANHC but that isn’t going to happen now. Make sure you say hi to Simon and Stephen.

From Steam Exchange we have the Oak Aged pale ale. This is their normal IPA aged in oak barrels. Last time I had this beer it was tasting pretty good. The oak isn’t over powering but is present. An interesting drop particularly if you are unfamiliar with barrel aged beers.

I’m not missing it so see you there on Wednesday night from 1800. Get There!
