Renaissance on Tap at The Wheaty
This Friday, 1st October 2010, from 1700 Renaissance Beers will be back on tap at The Wheaty. They have had the Renaissance beers for a while in bottle and even had them on tap once before. However, this time we have a special treat. The MPA or Marlborough Pale Ale will be on tap. This is the Renaissance take on a American style double IPA. I have had it from a bottle and it is a fantastic beer. You will get hit over the head with fresh New Zealand hops. As good as it was from the bottle I am expecting great things fresh from the tap.
Also going on tap on Friday is the Craftsman Oatmeal Stout. I’m pretty sure this one hasn’t been on tap before and it’s a limited release so also worth a loo I expect. As these run out Perfection Pale and Elemental Porter will return to the taps also. You really don’t want to miss out on the Marlborough Pale Ale though. If there is any way you can make it you should get to The Wheaty this Friday at 1700.

Renaissance Beer on tap at The Wheaty
This Friday from 1600 Renaissance beers will be going on tap at The Wheaty. I have had a couple of their beers in bottle in the past but this will be the first time on tap. I’m looking forward to getting them off tap and trying some we haven’t seen here before. I hear nothing but good things about the New Zealand beer scene and about Renaissance beers.
They are going to have Elemental Porter, Stonecutter Scotch Ale, Perfection Pale Ale and Paradox Blonde. I doubt they will all be on tap the first night. Normally they put two on at a time. It’s disappointing they didn’t get the APA or the MPA but I guess that gives us something to look forward to.
You can find more details on the calendar. I will be trying to get the for the 1600 kick off. Get There!

New Stuff at The Wheaty
It’s been a while since I got a post up. The day job has been getting in the way and things have been a little quiet on the local beer scene. Some new and interesting beers have arrived at The Wheaty in the last coupe of days though. Both kegs and bottles including some old favourites and some new beers we haven’t had here before.
I dropped in Friday afternoon and the Mikkeller Stateside IPA had just gone on tap. It is such a great beer. I know some people are getting IPA fatigue but it’s got such amazing hop flavour and aroma whilst managing to stay in balance. If you don’t get down a have one or two you are doing yourself a huge disservice. Though with the Stateside and Moo Brew stout on tap you may be gripped by indecision. There are other Mikkeller’s to come including some more single hop goodness.
In bottles there is a bunch of new and interesting thing from New Zealand to try. So far I have seen some beers from Renaissance and Three Boys. There may be others but these are the ones I have purchased. So far I have tried the Renaissance APA which was fantastic. I can’t wait to try the Imperial IPA waiting in my fridge. I also have the IPA from Three Boys to get to. They also had an oyster stout from Three Boys. Normally oyster stouts don’t actually have oysters in them but this one does. I haven’t tried it yet so can’t be specific but just cause you can do something doesn’t mean you should. I will give it a go but I just don’t see the point of putting shellfish in beer. The world would be a boring place if we just kept doing the same things though.
So find the time and get on down to The Wheaty for some great beers.
